Pilates

Pilates exercises help you build and maintain strength, flexibility, and more through the art of controlled movements. Our experienced instructors provide guidance in improving your physical and mental wellbeing.

Just what is Pilates?

Developed in the early 20th century by a German physical trainer, Pilates is a mind-body exercise technique that is practiced worldwide. Using a combination of different repetitive exercises to promote muscle exertion, Pilates improves core strength, flexibility, posture, and even your mind-body connection. At The Wellness Practice, we know one size does not fit all, so we have a variety of Pilates courses to fit your needs and goals.

Pilates can help with:

Core Strength

All movement stems from the center of your body – your core. The stronger it is, the better-supported your whole body is. Studies show Pilates helps improve your core strength.

Flexibility

Pilates will help you achieve the right balance between strength and flexibility of your muscles for optimal mobility. Most exercise regimens emphasize stretching before or after the repetitions. Pilates is a combination of the two.

Posture

Good posture requires strong spine muscles and full body alignment. Pilates focuses on both of these, and helps you achieve the ideal range of motion in your joints.

Back and Shoulder Pain

Pilates exercises target your deeper abdominal muscles and the pelvic floor. The stronger they are, the better supported your upper trunk is.

Injury Prevention

Injuries have many causes, but an often-overlooked one is muscles that are either too weak or too rigid. With a focus on developing support and stability for your joints, Pilates can help reduce the risk of injury in sports and other physical activity.

Women's Health

Pilates can help with postpartum recovery, pelvic floor strength, alleviating menstrual cramps, and more.
